Arnold "Arnie" Schatzle
Born on March 10, 1933, in Cold Spring, he was one of five sons of the late Francis “Frank” Schatzle and the late Mary (Nevins) Schatzle. He was predeceased by his younger brother Edward, who passed in 2000.
Arnold was a 1951 graduate of Haldane High School. His love of sports, especially football, led him to continue playing semi-professional post-graduation for the Beacon Bears. 1951 is also when Arnold began his career with IBM that would span 40 years before retiring in 1991 as a Systems Advisory Engineer. He attended IBM’s apprentice school from 1958-1960 where he graduated top of his class. A veteran, Arnold proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. He was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington and was a Signal Corps Specialist.
On July 23, 1955, Arnold married the love of his life, Marylin (Bruns), a Manhattan native, at Our Lady of Loretto in Cold Spring. Together they chose to make the Hudson Valley their home.
Arnold was a devoted and passionate man with a love of life and laughter. He traveled extensively and loved spending time with friends and family.
Artistic by nature, Arnold enjoyed creating masterpieces throughout his life from paintings to gardens and in more recent years he became a master model ship builder, His greatest, the U.S.S. Constitution which he built from scratch to model specifications, truly exemplifies his talents and perfectionism.
In addition to his wife Marylin Schatzle of Wappingers Falls, he is survived by his beloved daughter and son-inlaw, Barbara and Eric Lutts of Doylestown, PA and his grandchildren Morgan and Conor also of Doylestown; brothers, Capt. Francis Schatzle of Annapolis, MD; Philip Schatzle and his wife Peggy, of Cold Spring; Daniel Schatzle of Fishkill; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Delehanty Funeral Home 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, Thursday, January 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 18, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Loretto Church, Cold Spring.
