Skybaby Studio Takes Flight
On Saturday that dream came true.
Melia, a former co-proprietor of Vikasa Yoga and Pilates along with her colleagues Lara Voloto and Kathy Rowe, had her share of heartbreak in 2012 when Hurricane Sandy brought waist-high water into their carefully planned and decorated, rented studio space on lower Main Street in Cold Spring.
Fewer than three months later, they are are sky high and ready to debut Melia’s new business, christened Skybaby Studio, on the third floor of the beautifully appointed historic building of the same name, at 75 Main Street.
The steep but charming stair climb (notice the gorgeous handrails and whimsical décor throughout the building’s hallways) is rewarded with a breathtakingly spectacular, naturally lit space, with beautiful old wood floors, arched windows, alcoves, a sky-blue ceiling, and even a stage at one end. Antique ceiling fans and light fixtures complete the historic effect.
The space housed a Masonic lodge years ago and was more recently an artist’s loft.
When we visited, Melia, Kathy and their helper Mary Rose were busy preparing for the Saturday night “disco-yoga” opening party (the disco ball was yet to be delivered). Wine glasses, tables and chairs were stashed down at one end while everyone dusted and dry mopped to remove the last remnants of dust from the recent renovation.
Skybaby is offering a full roster of classes, including Align & Flow; Vinyasa; Kundalini Yoga; Power Yoga Flow; Yin Yoga; Express Flow; Yoga For Stiff People; Pilates; and Miss Empowered, “a fun and powerful yoga class geared for girls ages 12-17 years… meant to support young women in feeling strong and confident in their bodies, while empowering their hearts and minds.”
