Entergy Returns Indian Point 3 Nuclear Power Plant to Service
Buchanan – Control room operators returned the Indian Point 3 nuclear power plant to service this afternoon (Thursday). Operators had disconnected the plant from the electrical grid yesterday to troubleshoot a problem with an auxiliary electrical transformer.
"The function of the transformer that was taken out of service is to take electricity produced in our generator and alter its voltage so that we could use it to power our own equipment," said Jerry Nappi, communications manager at the Indian Point Energy Center. "We are now instead using power from the electrical grid to power that equipment, until we can troubleshoot and make repairs to the problematic transformer and put it back in service."
