'Snowless' Taconic Ed Center Winterfest is Sunday

Part of National Winter Trails Day

The snow drought continues, but the ‘Snowless’ Winterfest at Taconic Outdoor Education Center (TOEC) on Sunday, January 8th from 11 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. is still packed with many outdoor and indoor winter activities!

Outdoor Activities
A new addition to this year’s Winterfest, REI’s Outdoor School Instructors will be available, showing how to set up comfortable winter camp sites and emergency backcountry shelters. TOEC Staff Educators will offer guided nature and winter birding walks.
Indoor Activities
REI will also have a booth, answering questions about winter clothing and ice climbing. Hudson Valley Outfitters will be on hand to answer questions about the Tubb snowshoe product line. Kids can get creative at the “Hands on Nature Crafts” table, where children can make crafts to take home using items from nature. Fahnestock Winter Park (FWP) Staff will offer cross country ski wax workshops, showing techniques and answering questions. The Putnam Highland Audubon Society will have a booth with bird seed for winter bird feeders. Guiding Eyes for the Blind with their Ambassador Dogs will be on hand to speak about their programs. Food and hot beverages will be available in the Highland Lodge Dining Room.
Program Finale
Bill Robinson will give his crowd-pleasing wildlife presentation at 3:00 p.m. For more information please call (845) 265-3773. No pets at this program. The program cost is a suggested donation: Adults - $2, Kids - $1.
Taconic Outdoor Education Center is located at 75 Mountain Laurel Lane in
Cold Spring in Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park. The education center is part of the 15 state parks and six historic sites administered by New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation – Taconic Region.
