Crucial Public Policy Decisions Editor,
I am pleased to find that both Mayor Merando and the Nelsonville board of trustees have a vision for their community that will allow the village to continually and gradually improve. As communities like Putnam Valley struggle with tax basis reevaluations, development for tax base schemes, and huge year over year increases in tax rates both the villages of Cold Spring and Nelsonville and the county enjoy relative tax rate stability. The basic lesson in governance being that money can be easily spent while it tends to be difficult to earn and even harder to save.
