Robert Maxon Jett

Robert Maxon Jett, 93, of Gilford, NH, died on Friday, September 30, 2005 at the St. Francis Home in Laconia, NH after a brief illness. Born in Gary, Indiana, on June 7, 1912, he was the son of the late George C. and Neenah Maxon Jett, He was a graduate of Marquette University and Cornell University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as draftsman, mechanical engineer and inventor, designing tools and airplane parts during World War II and knitting machinery after the war. Maxon married his college sweetheart, Elizabeth A. Mosher, of Cold Spring on November 25, 1933. She survives and is a resident of the St. Francis Home in Laconia.

An infant son, George M. Jett, predeceased him. George’s twin sister, Carole (Ed) Ness, of Anchorage, AK survives, as does a son, Bruce Jett, of Claremont, NH. Bob is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces, including Judith Culbert Darcy of Cold Spring.

Bob was a sailing enthusiast and skier in his younger years, and a devoted husband to his wife of 72 years. He will be remembered for his keen intelligence and sense of humor and his gentle demeanor. Memorial services were held on Sunday, October 2, 2005 at the Gilford Community Church. Burial of remains will be in the McCoy Cemetery, Gilford, under the supervision of the Dewhirst Funeral Home of Laconia.
