Raquel Sanchez Mariche

Raquel Sanchez Mariche, age 68, of Cold Spring and The Bronx, died on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Skyview Nursing Home in Croton-on-Hudson. Born on September 3, 1936 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Ms. Sanchez Mariche spent her last year in Cold Spring with her daughter Zayda Sanchez.

Ms. Sanchez Mariche lived most of her adult life in the Bronx, and she was a dedicated social worker in the city of New York. She retired from a job with the City Hospital Corp., serving unwed mothers in the Women, Infants, Children (WIC) program. She spent her life helping her community and her church.

Raquel Sanchez Mariche will be remembered for her sweetness, warmth, determination and energy as well as her cooking, baking and gardening. Her traveling adventures with her daughters and her best friend Josefina Johnson were a highlight. A devout Catholic, her most cherished trips were her two visits to the Vatican, where she had an audience with the Pope with church group.

Survivors are daughters Z.I. Sanchez of Cold Spring and Mayra I. Sanchez of the Bronx. Her great nephews, who hail from Spain and New York, called her "abuela" and will miss her terribly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 29th at noon, The Chapel of Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. Burial will follow.
