John E. Thorpe II

John E. Thorpe II died at Elant of Newburgh after a five-year courageous battle with lung cancer on Sunday, January 15, 2006.

Ho was born in Nelsonville, New York on July 21, 1927 to the late John and Margarite Brewer Thorpe.

John attended Haldane School in Cold Spring, he served two years in the Korean War as a sergeant from 19521954, and he retired in 1994.

John is survived by his wife, Paula Guido-Thorpe of New Windsor; his son Paul and daughter-in-law Tracey Thorpe of the Town of Newburgh; one granddaughter, Crystal of Hyde Park: two step-grandsons William and Bryan Haag of the Town of Newburgh: greatgrandchildren, Monica, Makayla and Tylor of Hyde Park; his longtime pals and dear friends Fred Van Tassel of Beacon and Russ Appleby of New Windsor.

He was predeceased by his two sons, Guy Alan in 1962 and John Edward III in 1967; a brother Ralph in 1997; two sisters Elizabeth O’Dell in 2002 and Bonnie Smith in 2004.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Wappinger United Methodist Church, East Main Street, Wappinger Falls.

Burial of his remains will take place on April 8, 2006 at Noon at St. Joachim’s Cemetery, Washington Avenue, Beacon, New York, with full military honors,which family and friends are invited to attend.
