John A. MacIntyre, Jr.

John A. MacIntyre, Jr. died Monday morning, April 17, 2000. Until the past few years he was a life-long resident of Garrison, NY. He was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School where he starred in three sports. John was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the Green Beret and was decorated for bravery.

He was predeceased by his parents leaving his aunts, Gert Murphy of Yorktown and Ann Carlsen of Rhinebeck and two cousins.

There will be no viewing with a funeral mass at Our Lady of Loretto Church, Cold Spring at 11 am on Monday, April 24, 2000.

Helen "Nellie" Valentine

Helen "Nellie" Valentine, age 92, of Cold Spring, NY died on Friday, April 14, 2000 at St. Josephs Hospital, Yonkers, NY.

Mrs. Valentine was born in Cold Spring on July 5, 1907, to the late Joseph and Theresa (Percacciolo) Constantino.

She was a homemaker, a Parishioner of Our Lady of Loretto Church, Cold Spring, member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court Rita #789, member of the Columbus Society, and had been a lifelong resident of Cold Spring.

Mrs. Valentine was predeceased by her husband John J. Valentine, he died May 5, 1987, and is survived by one brother, Anthony Constantino of St. Louis Park, MN, three sisters, Nancy Constantino of Cold Spring, Teresa McCoart of Cold Spring and Elizabeth Lettererio of Beacon, NY. She was predeceased by two brothers, Angelo and William Constantino and four sisters, Rose Cretelli, Rachel Percacciolo, Mary Constantino and Angelina Constantino.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of Loretto Church, Cold Spring, on Tuesday, April 18, 2000. Internment followed in the Cold Spring Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Clinton Funeral Home, Cold Spring, NY.

Dorothy Teschmacher

Dorothy Teschmacher, age 87, died March 4, 2000 in Lynn, MA.

Born Dorothy Augusta Mosher on April 29, 1912 in Cold Spring, she was the daughter of the late Guy W. and Aimee Reid Doran Mosher. She attended Haldane School and graduated from Peekskill High School, received her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and her master’s degree in early childhood education from NYU. She married Warren Teschmacher and lived in Yorktown Heights for many years, operating the Yorktown Community Cooperative Nursery School there. She directed Head Start programs in White Plains and taught early childhood education at Sarah Lawrence.

In later years, she and her husband moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL and sailed the Caribbean and eastern seacoasts in their sailboat. Upon his death in 1973, she moved to Venice, FL and lived there for 10 years before moving to New England to be with her children.

Remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, gourmet cook and story-teller extraordinaire, Mrs. Teschmacher leaves four children: Marily Mower of Montgomery Village, MD; Gail McCormick of Lynn, MA; Diana Coleman of Cambridge, MA; Guy Teschmacher of Montpelier, VT; and six grandchildren.

She is also survived by her three siblings: Elizabeth Jett of Laconia, NH; Muriel Culbert of Venice, FL; George Mosher of Montreal, Canada; and nieces and nephews.

Cremation was private. The family requests any donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Edward J. Schatzle

Edward J. Schatzle, age 64, a long-time Beacon resident, died Saturday, March 25, 2000 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Newburgh.

Mr. Schatzle was employed as a groundskeeper for St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon. He was previously employed by IBM and VAMC, Castle Point. He was a 1953 graduate of Haldane High School and a 1955 graduate of Westchester Community College. Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960 as an electronic specialist. He was a parishioner of St. Johnn the Evangelist Church.

Born December 17, 1935 in Cold Spring, he was the son of Frank and Mary Nevins Schatzle.

Mr. Schatzle is survived by four brothers, Francis X. of Pass Christian, Miss, Arnold T. of Wappingers Falls, Phillip J. of Cold Spring and Daniel J. of Wappingers Falls; one aunt, Katherine Nevins of Beacon; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon. Burial followed in Cold Spring Cemetery.

Sarah V. Fisher

Sarah V. Fisher died on Saturday, April 1, 2000 in Kith Haven Nursing Home, Flint, Michigan at the age of 90.

Born on October 26, 1909 in Hardwick, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Teresa Timpano Vavala.

On August 3, 1930 in Peekskill she married William Fisher who predeceased her on September 29, 1981. Mrs. Fisher was a long-time area resident and former 40-year resident of Cold Spring. Survivors include one son, William F. Fisher of Grand Blanc, Michigan.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Tuesday, April 4, 2000. Interment followed in Assumption Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor, NY. Arrangements were handled by the Clinton Funeral Home, 728 North Division St., Peekskill.

Ruth A. Powell

Ruth A. Powell, age 97, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie. She was a life-long resident of Beacon.

Born in the Village of Matteawan, now part of the City of Beacon, on February 27, 1903, she was the daughter of David and Nora Benton Mohurter. She was married to George E. Powell, who died on June 10, 1973.

Mrs. Powell was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Beacon.

She is survived by one son, George G. and his wife Nancy Powell of Fishkill; one daughter, Carolyn and her husband Armand Ninnie of Beacon; five grandsons; 6 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Cochrane on January 2, 1998.

Funeral services were held at the funeral home with Rev. Christopher Yount officiating. Burial followed in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
