Muriel C. O'Donnell

Muriel C. O'Donnell, 82 of Harleysville, PA passed away peacefully December 29, 2008 at The Lutheran Community at Telford, where she had resided since 2007.She was the wife of the late William J. O'Donnell Sr. with whom she shared 45 years of marriage, and the raising of 5 children.

Born October 21, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY she was a daughter of the late Henry P. and Catherine C. Folz. She attended Catholic grammar and high schools. She finished her formal education when she obtained an Associates Degree from Montgomery County Community College, after her children were grown; this she used in her decade working in medical records at North Penn Hospital. She lived in Harleysville for 35 years, after residing in the same Hicksville (Long Island), NY house for 20 years, and spending her first 26 years (including 3 being married) in the sixfamily brownstone her parents owned on the border of Brooklyn and Queens.

She was an active parishioner at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Hatfield, PA. For the past few years she was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Schwenksville. She was an active volunteer in the community, and served with Heckler Plains Folklife Society. She traveled extensively with her husband, including through out the USA, visits to New Zealand, and an around the world trip. One of her early travel adventures was hitch hiking, with a girl friend, from New York City to Boston, long before the interstate highways.

Muriel was dedicated to her family, including, for many years, the yearly Christmas Eve family celebrations. She was the guest of honor at the summer 2008 O'Donnell family reunion, in upstate New York.

She is survived by her children Brian O'Donnell and his wife Carol of Cold Spring, William J. O'Donnell Jr. of Louisville CO, Kevin O'Donnell and his wife Jeanne of Upper Salford, and Charlotte O'Donnell of Parker, CO, grandchildren Katie, Mary, Scott, Sean, Michael, Janet, Annie, Emily and Caitlin, and great-grandchildren Makayla, Ethan and Owen. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a daughter Katie O'Donnell of Cold Spring, siblings Charlotte Nelson and Julius Folz and a great-granddaughter Grace Elizabeth Marano.

A viewing will take place at 10am on Saturday, January 3 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 40 Spring Mount Rd., Schwenksville, PA. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Schwenksville, PA. Interment followed in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont, PA. Memorial contributions may be made in Muriel's name to St. Mary Catholic Church at the above address and/or Grand View Health Foundation, Grand View Hospice, P.O. Box 902 Sellersville, PA 18960. Arrangements are by the Williams- Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc., Franconia.
