Rev. Robert Watson Douty

Rev. Robert Watson Douty, of Buchanan, NY and Swan's Island, Maine died Tuesday morning, May 30, 2006 after a long and courageous battle with heart failure. He was currently the pastor of the Cold Spring Baptist Church and a retired teacher from the Garrison School.

Bob was born in Philadelphia on June 20, 1943. He served his country in the 1960s as an air traffic controller with the Naval Air Division of the Navy Reserves. He received his BA in Psychology from California State University, MS in Education from University of Bridgeport, and his Masters of Divinity from Alliance Theological Seminary in Nyack. He also

studied American Sign Language, Irish Step Dancing, and furniture making. Bob had many talents and interests. During his teaching years, he is remembered for running his classroom using a management system he called "Star City." He enjoyed painting, singing, papermaking, woodworking, dancing and was a dedicated journal writer.

Bob was a member of the Philipstown Clergy, Association of Christian Counselors, Buchanan Engine Co. #1, Baker Street Irregulars, The 3 Garriedebs, and The Hockamock Players Community Theater.

Bob's call to ministry came late in life. He was Ordained

in 1990. Pastor Bob served as Associate Pastor and interim pastor at the First Baptist Church in Ossining, Christian Ed. Director at St. Philip's in Garrison, Pastor of the Cold Spring Baptist Church and Chaplain of the Buchanan Engine Co. #1. He also did summer fill in work at churches in Maine.
