Silver Spoon

By Tim Greco

Nobody helped restaurant owner Jimmy Abdelhady get to where he is today -- good, old-fashioned hard work is what this affable Egyptian native has used to make the Silver Spoon one of Cold Spring’s successful restaurants.

Jimmy opened Silver Spoon 8 years ago and has worked hard to maintain his strong customer base. Jimmy is still reeling from the tragic loss of his beloved brother Naser, who he considered his best friend. It has been a trying period in his life as tears easily stream down his face (and mine) as he recalled how much his brother was a constant source of encouragement and strength.

Going forward, success might be tinged with bittersweet memories, but as his loyal customers know, it’s hard to keep him down for too long. Jimmy is slowly moving forward with his always upbeat demeanor. Most days you can find Jimmy hovering in the restaurant making sure everything is running smoothly. To most people in Philipstown there is nothing like a cozy neighborhood restaurant that serves delicious comfort food. Silver Spoon Restaurant epitomizes everything that is right with Cold Spring. Silver Spoon is a gem on Main Street, with a friendly wait staff ready to cater to your dining experience.

Of course, everyone knows about their lunch and dinner menus, where comfort food is served in abundance, but perhaps my favorite time to visit Jimmy is at breakfast. Silver Spoon is quickly becoming a known as the go-to place to have breakfast in town.

What sets Silver Spoon aside from the rest, is their eclectic breakfast menu selections, such as their delicious crepes, filled with Danish cheese and topped with a selection of fruits. Crocque Monsieur, which is grilled eggs dipped bread, topped with country ham Swiss and crowned with a Dijon cheese sauce. Or perhaps a Tex-Mex burrito, scrambled egg’s cheese, chili, home fries and jalapeño peppers wrapped in a warm tortilla. Pancakes at the Silver Spoon are the hearty and good buttermilk variety, or how about some waffles with a twist? Spiced Pumpkin or Gingerbread anyone or Brownie. All waffles can be topped with berries or cinnamon apples with whipped cream. You will find plenty of traditional breakfast staples like eggs and bacon or sausage and a hot cup of Joe. Eat in or as always take-out orders are always welcomed. There is no need to mention that this restaurant will not break the bank, as they are known for their very reasonable prices. Their menus have something for everyone.

You can enjoy sidewalk dining and watch the hustle and bustle of Main Street from under the awning, or inside where the decor has an old world flavor, with hardwood floors and a colorfully painted tin roof.
